Quebec City is the only walled city north of Mexico. Old Québec holds fast to Cap Diamant above the river: rue Saint-Jean, rue Sainte-Anne, the boardwalk and the Château Frontenac standing over it all.
In winter, the tin roofs and sloping streets form a subject painters have taken up for two centuries.
