Story
In 1856, the village of Saint-Jean became the municipality of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, with 3,215 residents.
Like thirteen other courthouses built during the same period, it was built in 1859 and inaugurated in 1861.
It is one of the finest examples of neoclassical stone architecture in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, as most of the other buildings are made of red brick.
It has exceptional heritage value.
