The Masse House
Built about 1810 by Jean-Baptiste Masse, this house has been used as a residence, an inn and a general store. Mr. Masse, a Patriot, took part to the Saint-Denis’ battle in November 1837.
His house is saved, but the soldiers occupied it and plundered his basement. Along the years, this house was used as a residence, a store, a hotel, a manufacture and a mill. Since 1988, it has been used as 1837-1838 Patriots’ interpretation center, called “the Patriots’ national house”.
Built about 1810, The Masse House has been classified as an historical monument in 1977. This imposing building made of stone is one of a kind with its ground rectangle trapeze plan. With its fire protection walls and its multiple openings, the Masse House is a good example of urban architecture in rural environment.

His house was spared, but the soldiers occupied it and plundered its cellars. Over the years this house served as a residence, a store, a hotel, a factory, and a mill. In 1988, an interpretation centre on the Patriotes of 1837-1838 was set up there, called " La maison nationale des Patriotes."
