Église Sacré-Coeur de Jésus

Based on a photo taken on October 10, 2017, the eve of the demolition of this church, which was that of my parish in the Bourg-joli neighbourhood of Saint-Hyacinthe, the church of my childhood, of the baptism of one of my sons and of the funerals of my mother, father and wife.

It can be said that this church, built on the grounds of L’ancien collège du Sacré-Coeur, had a useful life of more than 70 years, and that it was regrettable to see this heritage building disappear in such a careless way.

I am happy to have sold this painting to a young couple among my collectors, as it

reminds them of their wedding at this location and of the baptism of one of their daughters.

On January 27, 1946, Mr. René Richer was chosen as architect for the construction, with a maximum contract of $145,000.00. The contract was awarded on February 15, 1946 to the contractor Lucien Vadeboncoeur and stipulated that the church had to be ready by May 1, 1947. Mgr Arthur Douville blessed the cornerstone on September 1, 1946 and the work began right away, but a slight delay held up the completion of the work, and it was not until the fall of 1947 that religious services began in the parish.
