Édifice Jacques Lafontaine

This building was surely named this way in honour of the notary and former Mayor of the Cité de Saint-Hyacinthe

Maître Jacques Lafontaine... who practised there as a notary with his son.

His son, Maître Hyppolite Lafontaine, was also the officiating notary for my first marriage contract

with Claudette Bernier, on August 31, 1968...

and for our first wills... in this same building...

For fun, and in order to classify this painting among my SIGNATURE paintings,

I added a fire hydrant in my Naphthol red colour,

A fire hydrant that does not actually exist on the premises...

It is in this Édifice Jacques Lafontaine, located at 905 rue du Palais in Saint-Hyacinthe, that FOUR notary practices, among the oldest in Saint-Hyacinthe, have been merged under the same roof since January 1, 2024.

The notary families Lafontaine, L’Heureux & associés and Ashby et Ashby are now united there to carry on the knowledge and expertise acquired, while prioritizing and maintaining the quality of client service, as noted by Maître Brigitte Ashby, Notary.

Maître Jacques Lafontaine was Mayor of the Ville de Saint-Hyacinthe from 1958 to 1968 and practised as a Notary in the Maskoutain region for 47 years, from 1939 to 1986.

Me. Luc l’Heureux, for his part, practised as a Notary in Saint-Hyacinthe for 42 years, that is from 1956 to 1998.

Their children, Me. Louis H. Lafontaine and Me. Chantal L’Heureux, have practised and still practise this profession for many years, as do their grandchildren, Me. Jean-François Lafontaine and Me. François L’Heureux.

Notarial practice among the Lafontaine, l’Heureux, and Ashby families in Maskoutain territory constitutes a long family tradition of legal practice in this field.
